    Hi.
I would like to buy Portfolio Pro plugin for a particular shop that has many items that change very quickly because they sell one of a kind articles, so they need to upload often many images and descriptions. After reading and watching about portfolio I see the category management just a little in the free version page . Are there more screenshots and documentation about categories and their possibilities? As it’s not possible to duplicate projects, may I manage portfolio like it follows?
    a) I will create a big project where all available items are added, each with its own category.
    b) I will create a global page “portfolio” with all items with filterable categories.
    c) I should create also a single page for each category, but how to do it? Is it possible to specify a category in the shortcode or some other way?
Are you planning to allow duplicating projects and adding parameters to shortcode to b e able to use. e.g., the same gallery with different views without having to upload again images, descriptions, thumbnails, categories and all, that is a very long work to do?
    Thank you

  • Hello kkriss
Thank you for your post. Portfolio’s category option is designed for dividing the images/videos of the project into different categories. For example, if you have some images/videos which are similar according to their purpose, appearance or any other functionality you can collect them within one category. Here is the demo example of hoe do they look https://huge-it.com/wordpress-portfolio-gallery-demo-7-lightbox-gallery/#plugin_demo_wrapper
The main difference of this option from sorting buttons is that you can manually select the images you would like to have under one category. While in the case of sorting buttons it refers to all images and not particular ones.
The a) and b) requirements are available in the Portfolio Plugin, but having the separate categories with individual shortcodes, unfortunately, is not possible because the shortcode can has only a project. As an alternative variant, you may create several portfolios and give them a name of the certain category.
We are planning to add an option for duplicating portfolios, but we are not able to give you the exact and right time for it.
If you have other questions or want to have more information about some features or the plugin overall, you are welcome to ask as many questions as you want.
    Thank you!

    Hi, thanks for your reply.
My need is that I will have many items and they’ll change continuously, they will never be present a second time, cause they are unique items. So I will have to upload a lot of items often and I can’t employ so muche time for uploading images and info, and, most of all, do double work to build doubled projects to simulate categories pages.
I think that, as each item will have its own category/ries, then is basic that, through category shortcode parameters we can “play” with them to show many different views (one category page, multiple categories page …) using the same project that could be global (all categories), what changes is the queries parameters. At least, if the duplicating function could be available, it could helps the lack of shortcode categories query.I’m trying to convince my client that the plugin is necessary but, as it costs enough, I should grant him at least those 2 functions.
    Thanx

Dear kkriss, in any case the price of the plugin includes only those functions that we give, even if we add these two requests it will cost much more, as it is made only for you, if you can make changes and get the right result, you are free with it.

Hi. I think the duplicate function is so necessary to let users work normally as, if someone has a 100+ images project with images, descriptions and whatever, can’t do it twice. I’ve always seen in galleries, sliders, portfolios the chance to duplicate because it’s so normal for everybody, in fact I saw other users asking you for the duplicating function too and you answering you were working on it, so it’s not only my request. Also, can’t use properly categories for different pages, so there’s no chance to use the long work to upload every item data, in different views nor acting with categories or duplicating projects. I’m not a programmer, that’s why I buy plugins, and that’s the most expensive in 8 years working with WordPress, so I’d prefer one or two default views but more functions to use when needed. If they will be added, it opens so many chances to use it, I was thinking to buy it for 2 other sites, but don’t know exactly how to manage items without. Thank you.
