    Hi,

    I recently installed the Illustratr theme, which should have the ‘portfolio’ content type automatically enabled.

    It is not available in the admin panel – and I’ve followed the WordPress Support guidance on adding it – via Settings>Writing>Custom content types.

    But the ‘custom content types’ option is not there under Settings>Writing either.

    Can anybody help? I have tried other themes too and it doesn’t seem to be working, so it may not be an Illustratr issue.

    Thanks!

  • Well I do have exactly the same problem – at the beginning I thought it was because I’m using the german version of WordPress. But it seems that this is not the reason.
    Hopefully anybody knows the answer..

    Hi,

    If you haven’t already, you might want to try installing the JetPack plugin. In the readme.txt file of Illustratr, I found this:

    == Description ==

    Illustratr is a minimalist portfolio theme that helps you create a strong a?? yet beautiful a?? online presence. Primarily crafted for designers and photographers, it is a simple, powerful, and flexible theme.
    * Responsive layout.
    * Portfolio Page Template.
    * Custom Header.
    * Jetpack.me compatibility for Infinite Scroll, Portfolio Custom Post Type, Responsive Videos.
    * The GPL v2.0 or later license. ?? Use it to make something cool.

    Good luck!

    As thesongline pointed out, the Portfolio custom post type is generated through Jetpack, which means that your portfolio items will be preserved when you switch between themes that support the Jetpack portfolio feature, like Espied and Sketch.

    Let me know if you have any trouble with it!

    I’m not the creator of this post, but I had the same issue.
    After following your instructions it’s working pretty well.

    But I’ve got one last question.
    I’d like to show up only one type or one tag at my front page portfolio – I thought that I can use the short codes like:
    [portfolio display_content=false display_types=true display_tags=false include_type=home, columns=2 showposts=10]
    in the Post Page ‘Portfolio’ – but nothing happens. If I put the short code into my Front Page ‘Welcome’ the portfolio is shown like I want it to, but below the portfolio with all types appears too.
    Next to it I tried to write anything in the Post Page, but it doesn’t appear.

    My settings are
    Front Page: Welcome
    Post Page: Portfolio
    both are set to the ‘Portfolio Page Template’.

    ju_ke_123 – Could you please start a new thread for your question and provide a link to your site so I can take a look directly?

    Keep in mind that the default portfolio homepage will show all portfolio projects.

    If you want to use the shortcode to display only certain project types, you would need to set up a separate page. You’ll find more setup info here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/

    I guess that answers my question.
    I’ll try it again with a separate page and if I’ll have some problem, I create a new post! Thank you! ??

    It is supposed that going to

    Settings → Writing → Your Custom Content Types

    will show the option to show Portfolios, but it is not there. I just set up a new website with the default theme, why is not showing? is there any other special thing I have to do to show the Portfolios? or is a thing that a theme has to activate?

    By the way, I installed the Jet Pack plug in and there is not Portfolio either… I’m uninstalling it.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi jlgarcia – you need to activate Jetpack’s Custom Post Types module to use Portfolios. Just activating Jetpack alone isn’t enough – you need to make sure that module is turned on.

    Let me know how it goes.
