    Hi there,

I just tried adding a portfolio to two different sites which use the Virtue theme. In both cases, I’m getting a ‘Not found’ error on the /portfolio/ url (e.g. when I click on the grid between the arrow buttons, on any of the portfolio posts).

E.g. https://www.lltca.com/portfolio/march-newsletter/ displays fine, but when I click the grid top right, between the nav arrows, and arrive at https://www.lltca.com/portfolio/, that page displays a ‘Not found’ error.

    – I tried disabling all plugins except Kadence Toolkit and resaving permalinks, and this didn’t fix it.
    – Clearing caches didn’t fix it. I tried opening each site in Safari and Firefox on a Macbook, and on Safari on an iPhone SE, and got the error message each time.
    – In both cases, I had created and assigned a portfolio type to each of the portfolio posts. In case this was somehow affecting things, I tried deleting the portfolio type; this didn’t fix it.
    – In both cases, I am using Project Layout: Beside and Project Options: Image. I’ve a “gallery” of one image for each portfolio item, also set as featured image. As I say, the individual portfolio posts display fine (and the arrows work); the problem is purely with the /portfolio/ page.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi Tracy,
Have you set up a portfolio grid page? Are you able to link directly to that? What are your permalink settings?

Hi Hannah, thanks for the quick response! I haven’t set up a portfolio grid, no – how/where do you do that? Under ‘Portfolio’ I just have the option to create or amend portfolio posts/items, and portfolio types to assign those to. The grid icon appears between the arrows on each portfolio post, without me having done anything further.

I’m just using default settings for permalinks – custom type of /%category%/%postname%/.

    Thanks,
    Tracy

Ok, so you need to create a portfolio page. Navigate to Pages from your WP Dashboard and create a new page entitled “Portfolio” and set the page template to Portfolio Grid.

Hi Hannah, ahh – I’d tried that but there were no formatting options for displaying the grid; I see from your guide you have to save/publish whilst still editing in order for those to appear! Thank-you. That would work – but for one of my two Virtue sites, I’d need to display two out of three portfolio types. Because it’s a dropdown only allowing for selection of 1 type to display, is there a CSS change I can make to either select two types, or to show all except the third type? (Maybe the drop down could be changed to a check box, or an “all types except” field could be added?)

    Thanks for your help!

PS Or better yet, can I display more than one portfolio grid on a single page? there are only 2 portfolio types with a small number of items, so it would be better to have them on the same page with headers separating them. Would that be shortcode approach?

…Actually, I guess showing more than one category is probably the ‘filter’ option available to premium users, you can ignore that question!

But how do I change the link on the grid icon from /portfolio/ to /portfolio/name-of-newly-created-portfolio-grid-page? Thanks!

Virtue Premium has more options to achieve this, but for virtue free, I think your best bet is to create a parent type for your two portfolio types you want to show. Then just select the parent type to display on your portfolio grid. Would that work for you?

Hi there, yes that’s what I did after my last post – I still need, tho’, to be able to link it to that grid icon? It defaults to /portfolio/ when I now need it to go to /portfolio/name-of-newly-created-portfolio-grid-page. How do I do that, please?

You can set the All Projects Portfolio Page from Theme Options > Page/Post Settings.
