Is there any way of positioning the title “References” and the consequent references themselves away from the far left side of the page? The ideal position would be centred in the middle of the page (not far left), left justified (as they are currently) and with a width of 560px rather than full page width (560px is the widely recommended text width for ease of reading)

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi,

This will be down to your theme and the CSS in use.

You’ve used the header part of the settings, right, to add that “References” title? I can see Elementor (which you appear to be using) doing lots to the page content just before this is output but you’ve now added any classes, etc., to the references header. Otherwise, doing that will allow you to target some specific CSS to align this better.

Take a look at this example: https://artiss.blog/2020/10/support-automation-how-to-make-it-work-for-your-customers/. You’ll see there’s no heading above the footnotes and that it’s aligned as per the post. Usually, this is what you’d expect to see but, depending on settings you’ve used and the set-up of your theme, this will vary.

Hi. Thank you very much for your response. The example at the end of the link you provided looks perfect. From your response, I infer that in order to achieve something like the example, I need to make changes to my theme and in order to do this I need to add some CSS. I’ve used very little CSS, what I’ve used is “pre-written” by someone answering a support question similar to the one I have and then I hack around amending the CSS to do what I need it to do (sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t). Is there any chance you could respond by pasting in the CSS you use to achieve what you did in the example?

No, it’s the opposite – I’m using default settings and the Twenty Twenty theme. Nothing more.

Thank you for your response. I’m using a theme called Generate press and to the best of my knowledge this theme has not been tinkered with (so settings are default). Anyway, from our support discussion I understand that I do need to change something in my theme. So I’ve been hacking around changing what I dare and testing for the consequent impact on the positioning of the references (e.g., I changed container width from 1200px to 1000 px) but I’ve not found the solution. Could you maybe suggest which theme setting I should be looking to change / restore to default in order to move the positioning of the references further away from the very left edge of the screen?

I wouldn’t, no. Each theme is set up differently so, without owning it, it would be impossible for me to say.
