On the Settings : Table of Contents admin page the fourth option is Position. From there you can choose one of the four support positions. The closest option to meet your requirements is After first heading.

    Hope that helps!

Hi, not really…I already found the options. But I would like to control by myself where to put the toc. Not only one of the four options. At the end, I maybe have to change some css?

YOu might want to switch to Table of Contents Plus as it has a shortcode that you can use to control exact placement.

Hello, I have the same need. I actually switched away from Table of Contents Plus because you have the smooth scroll offset (works perfect) and is something I really need. TOC + doesn’t have this.

Is there another way to control positioning?

Sorry, no, there is not. When I forked TOC+, the shortcode placement was one of the features I removed because I did not want users have to figure out shortcodes.

That said… I added to my feature request list.

How do I get the table on the left side next the content? The Position left is not in the selection?

Scroll a little further down in the settings. In the Appearance section, select float left.

    Hope that helps!

The Table goes left an right but the content is farther blow. Or do I need the side widget?

That is mostly likely due to how the theme has structure and styled the page content. Best guess it is clearing floats. Impossible for me to know since I can not see the site.
