Ajay, hope you are safe and well, my friend.

I ran into an issue with the Top Ten widget that I use in my sidebar to display the ten most popular articles.

I discovered that the following two plugins seem to interfere with the widget:

    WP External Links
    MarfeelPress

When I active either of those plugins, clicking on the links in Top Ten just shows the HTML of the article page. I’m not saying this is a Top Ten problem but maybe you have an idea what might be happening.

I’ve disabled the plugins to prevent the error from occurring but I can re-enable if you want to take a look. Ironically, when I hover over the links they appear to be normal.

    Thank you, sir!

Bryan, all good here. And, hope the same with you.

Can you check two things, if not already. Enable only one of the two plugins WP External Links and/or MarfeelPress. Does it make a difference?

Are there specific settings in WP External Links that triggers this e.g. if you only keep it limited to external links not internal (sorry not familiar with the plugin).

In top 10 settings, there are options for rel=nofollow – can you toggle that?

Lastly, can you check what happens to the link HTML of Top 10 with the plugins enabled vs disabled – you can right click the link in Firefox and Inspect

I enabled only WP External Links and made sure it was set to only external links.

    I set Top 10 settings to rel=nofollow.

Neither of those solved the problem. But now that I’ve taken a closer look it seems to be the theme that’s missing.

I was going to leave it you to check but I noticed that there are admin links in the code.

I enabled WP External Links and you can see the problem in TODAY’S MOST POPULAR ARTICLES in my right sidebar.

Here’s one interesting thing. I tried three browsers and the problem only occurs in Chrome. I turned off all my extension and that didn’t help.

Please let me know what you think. I also sent this info to the guys from WP External Links.

Well, I’m sorry to bother you with this but it turns out the problem only occurs when I am logged in as Admin on the site. I know it makes no sense.

From your testings, this is only in Chrome browser when you’re logged into your Admin area?

Is there a way you can disable all extensions in Chrome and see.

Does this make the difference deactivating the plugin WP External Links?

    Ajay,

After disabling my plugins one at a time without success, I ran across a discussion about this on the WP External Links WordPress support page. The issue is caused by a conflict between WP External Links and Site Kit by Google and it still isn’t resolved.

Deleting both of those plugins eliminated the problem so I think it’s safe to say that it doesn’t have anything to do with the great Top Ten plugin!

Thanks as always for your support and concern.

Thank you very much for confirming. It is always good to hear the plugin is working well!
