• Hi,

When the ActivityPub plugin (by @pfefferle / Automattic) is activated, the “play” icon disappears on videos (all of them, with or without video thumbnails), and a small button-like icon is shown above or on the right of the video/image when the page in rendered in a browser.

Solution for now: disable the AP plugin.

    Sincerely
    DJM

    Hi DJM,

I can’t recreate this in my local environment. I have the plugin activated along with ActivityPub, but videos are still displaying correctly for me.

Are there any settings I need to add to ActivityPub?

    Kind regards,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

No specific setting I know of. But the latest versions added new blocks and CSS/JS to render them.

    Here’s what I get:

    1 – AP on

    2 – AP off

Is that page online so I can take a look please?

I can see on the URL you sent over that the CSS file from Better Core Video Embeds is not being loaded at all of that page. This will be the reason for the incorrect rendering of the video on page load.

I am not sure why this is.

I have a test site running with just Better Core Video Embeds and ActivityPub plugins active using WordPress v6.7.2 and the latest version of the Twenty Twenty Five theme. The videos are rendering.

I am therefore wondering if this is a conflict with another plugin and the ActivityPub plugin.

Been trying to deactivate all FrontEnd plugins one by one, but the only one that generates this in my context is AP. Removed both caches, the CSS/JS manager, etc.

I use Twenty Twenty-Three, but tested with -Five and same.

In the latest versions of the AP plugin, there’s a “Fediverse preview”, that renders the posts like this:

It strips the formatting that is not supported by the likes of Mastodon, etc.

Could it somehow mess with the final output?

I am not sure about this. I can’t recreate the error and therefore it is hard to suggest a fix. Maybe the ActivityPub plugin authors would have some info?
