    Howdy!

I had SendGrid network activated on a multisite with one subsite allowed to self-manage their SendGrid settings. On that subsite, the API key box always remained blank, despite the key being seemingly present in wp_options. Test e-mails would not go out either.

I deactivated the subsite’s ability to self-manage and it worked again.

I verified the API key was functional by creating a new key, adding it to the subsite, noting the failure, then adding it to the network settings and disabling that subsite’s management, noting a successful send from that subsite.

For my case, I’m fine going the network route, but head’s up that y’all might want to double-check that flow.

    Hello.

The settings for the main site, including the API Key, are not used by subsites that are self-managed. Each self-managed subsite must provide it’s own API Key.

Here are the steps we used to send an email from the subsite:
    1. We created a WordPress Multisite install with 3 subsites.
    2. We installed the SendGrid plugin and Network Activated it.
    3. We navigated to the Network Dashboard -> SendGrid Settings.
    4. We added an API Key (api key no. 1) on the settings page and clicked “Update Settings”.
    5. We noticed that he settings were updated successfully.
    6. We navigated to the bottom of the page, filled the send test form and clicked “Send”.
    7. We noticed the “Email was sent” notification and we received the email
    8. We navigated to the “Multisite” tab and enable Subsite 2 to be self-managed.
    9. We navigated to the Subsite 2 Dashboard -> Plugins and clicked “Activate” under the SendGrid plugin.
    10. We navigated to the Subsite 2 Dashboard -> Settings -> SendGrid.
    11. We added a new API Key (api key no 2.) on the settings page and clicked “Update Settings”.
    12. We navigated to the bottom of the page, filled the send test form and clicked “Send”.
    13. We noticed the “Email was sent” notification and we received the email

Can you please follow the steps above and tell us if you still experience any issues?

    Thank you,
    SendGrid
