I have an active podcast operating on the default feed that SSP generates. Awesome.

I have a collection of audio files from a defunct podcast that I want to give a home on my site. I want to create WP posts and use the SSP audio player features etc. But doing that will make those episodes appear in my default feed generated by SSP.

…so I see there’s a checkbox to keep an episode out of Apple/Google. Which I’m assuming just makes it not appear in the RSS feeds.

Meanwhile, I’d love to have a series for these legacy podcasts media files. Then I could quietly give a series-specific SSP RSS feed url to people who really wanted to suck the files into their favorite podcast player. But I suspect if I checkbox the episodes to keep them from Apple/Google, they’d also not appear in the series-specific RSS feed.

I don’t want to go to the effort to migrate my current podcast to be in its own series, and then migrate to using a series-specific RSS feed url.

    Thoughts?

Hi there. Yes as you alluded to if you opt to exclude episodes from the Apple Podcasts, etc. if will apply to any feed within your site that these episodes might appear. So while this would achieve the result you’re looking for in the default feed it would also remove them from the Series feed.

What I would recommend is recreating those episode posts and assigning those episodes to that Series that you want to create. You can “NoIndex” these posts in Google so as to avoid duplicate content issues. This way you’ll have these original episodes excluded in the default feed but the new versions of the posts available in the Series feed.

Unfortunately, I don’t want to change our existing podcast’s feed url—I’d have to use a series-specific feed for each of them. I’m going to just let things as they are.

    Thanks for the reply! ??
