    Hi there,

Love this plugin—it’s one of a very specific set of plugins that I use on nearly every site I build. I’ve noticed that animated GIFs tend to get pretty grainy when run through optimization. I would think I could prevent Imsanity from touching any .gif file by altering the GD config—is this the best approach or am I entering the danger zone?

    Thanks!
    James

I wouldn’t mess with your GD configuration certainly. I think you are on the right track to just make Imsanity skip GIFs entirely, though I wonder how ridiculously large your GIFs must be for Imsanity to do anything with them anyway ??

Unfortunately, Imsanity doesn’t have any filters to skip images, but if it would help, I could add one? It would require some basic coding knowledge to implement from your end.

Ha, animated gifs can get definitely get pretty unwieldy. But I would rather preserve the option of using them judiciously than run them all through an extra round of optimization. I would very much appreciate a filter to specify file extensions to skip! I am very comfortable with hooking into filters on the theme side.

    Thanks a million!

Alright, I’ll work on adding a filter for that later this week, probably will add a few others while I’m at it.

That is great news, thanks a million! Very excited to implement that filter

Just released 2.5 with the additional filters (and some other under-the-hood improvements).

Thank you so much for this update! The ‘imsanity_allowed_mimes’ filter is exactly what I needed. Very much appreciate your super responsive development support.

Hello how do i use this to exclude gifs?
    Are gifs resized to jpgs?

    thanks

@kattouf – If you don’t know how to implement that filter, you’ll need to hire someone who does.
Also, it’s generally best to start your own thread.
