    Hi all,

I have two separate content areas on my site — a first-person blog under blog.mysite.com and a newsletter area under mysite.com/news/

I’ve been running two separate WP instances. Is it possible to use multisite for both? When I looked at the documentation, it said that you had to choose subdomains or directories.

    Can I do both?

    Thanks

Yes, but it’s not simple or straightforward.

You would have to run WP out of mysite.com and have THREE sites

    1) mysite.com
    2) mysite.com/news
    3) mysite.com/blag (I said blAg on purpose, because blOg is restricted)

Then you would install domain mapping plugins and map blog.mysite.com to mysite.com/blag

    Mike,

I was under the understanding that the first “default” site in multi-site automatically gets a blog at the mysite.com/blog location which is why it is reserved.

So won’t the asker only need one additional site: mysite.com/news, and he needs to use the subfolder option when creating the network? Lastly
he should point the main site to the blog and the 2nd site to news.

Please clarify whether my assumption is correct, because I just can’t find the codex entry that documents this.

Your assumption is correct, BUT, he asked for

    1) a first-person blog under blog.mysite.com

    2) a newsletter area under mysite.com/news/

The only way to get to #1 is to make a third blog.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for your help. I finally got around to trying it and the three site methods works.

    All the best
