possible to use [if] shortcode with related fields?

Hi, in a pod template I have a pods named “highlight” and it has a relationship to another pods named “resource”, which is referenced from “highlight” as “highlight-parent”.

I found out that while I can display a related field like {@highlight-parent.resource-author}, I cannot seem to use the [if] shortcode like [if highlight-parent.resource-author]. [if highlight-parent] works, but not [if-highlight-parent.resource-author].

Any clarity appreciated. ??
