• Hello everyone!

When I load the post or page editor, the visual editor does not load properly and I get the message: “Failed to load plugin: wpautoresize from url https://www.MYWEBSITE.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wpautoresize/plugin.min.js”

I have disabled all plugins and changed the theme to 2016 and still the problem persists.
I also tried reinstalling WP Core, but that didn’t help either.

I’m with a a pretty good (non-EIG) host and believe I have the memory limit set high enough to execute things.

Is there anything else I can try to get to the bottom of the issue?

    Thanks all!

Also, try switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Seventeen.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins). If you don’t have access to your admin area, use FTP/ SFTP , or your web-host’s cPanel or whatever file management application your host provides (no Dashboard access required). Navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder by adding “-old” to the end of the folder name. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme (Twenty Sixteen.). That will force your site to use it.

    Hello t-p,

    Thanks for the reply.

I mentioned in the first post that I had tried the 2016 theme (I meant twenty sixteen – sorry!).

With twenty sixteen, the problem was still there. Although I’m not sure it would make much difference, did you think I should try twenty seventeen too?

    Thanks!

If all plugins are disabled, the site and home url is pointed properly in the database, and the theme is a default theme and everything has been replaced fresh with copies from the WordPress archive – perhaps there is something else happening on your server – can you please verify that this has been done?

Try it and see if it works

    @websitetroubleshooting,

All plugins were disables, theme was set to a default WP theme (twenty sixteen), WP Core was reinstalled, and nothing was changed with the DB or anything else.

If no one can think of anything else obvious, it could be a server issue as you say. I’ll open a ticket with the host and see if there’s any issues.

I’ll keep monitoring this thread in case anyone else has any ideas.

    Thanks all.

We have the same issue–which Google searches show is rare specifically with “wpautoresize” but rampant with many other core elements subordinate to tinymcs.

I never see this on our website, but two others get the same message in a small, borderless, no padding, pink popup type I’ve never seen since working with WordPress since 2008. They sent me screenshots the last three days.

    Popup screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/7VAaVja.jpg

    Popup text:

failed to load plugin: wpautoresize from url https://domain.name/wp-includes/js/tinymcs/plugins/wpautoresize/plugin.min.js

The path shows that the /tinymcs/ is superordinate to /wpautoresize/ and this search indicates that while you cannot find a wpautoresize plugin, it is on over 56,800 websites in the same position:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=wpautoresize&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS762US762&oq=wpautoresize&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60j69i61j69i60.203j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

The wp-includes directory is part of the WordPress Core so it *seems* that this issue needs to be solved by the WordPress core team rather than by users switching themes or disabling plugins or uninstalling and re-installing WordPress.

In our case, the site is live with millions of viewers each month so we can’t do the typical “throw out the engine and re-install it to see if the car will start again” type recommendations we all see.

We’re also using the most recent version of WordPress and all plugins are updated.

Thank you for helping WordPress users solve a WordPress Core issue.

This is happening to me as well. The same pink error box appears. Worse, when it was worst, no fields that used TinyMCE were editable. They just appeared blank.

After downgrading to the generic 2017 theme with no plugins, reactivating my theme (Suffusion) and then slowly building back up, I have it to where the error appears, but I can still edit text. I had to disable the following plugins to get editing functionality back:

    ?? UsageDD
    Displays usage information to administrators
Version 1.4.2 | By Dion Designs | View details

    Clean Options
finds orphaned options and allows for their removal from the wp_options table
Version 1.3.2 | By Mittineague | View details

    Plugins Garbage Collector
It scans your WordPress database and shows what various things old plugins which were deactivated, uninstalled) left in it. The list of additional database tables used by plugins with quant of records, size, and plugin name is shown.
Version 0.10.3 | By Vladimir Garagulya | View details

Unfortunately, I don’t know which plugin causes the tinymce error to appear in the first place.
