Post authors not getting notified of comments

I have three authors who can post to my blog. I have comment moderation on. Whenever someone posts a comment on a blog item, my blog admin email account receives a notification, but the post authors themselves receive nothing. I have tried changing the levels of the post authors (as high as 9), to no avail. They all have a proper email address in their profile.

As far as I can tell from other posts in this forum, the authors SHOULD be getting notifications. In fact, I can see the script for it myself in wp-includes/functions.php. So why isn’t it working for me?

I have looked through all my blog settings and also through the available WP documentation, which is highly insufficient in that department. When I raise the user level past 5, my authors can get access to the blog “options” panel, including the “Discussion” tab, and there APPEARS to be a setting for sending notifications to “me” — so I am assuming that the “me” here is the person currently logged in, i.e. the author. But the author is NOT getting any email notifications. Only the blog admin email account is getting them.
