• Hi, I’m new to WordPress, and any other “blogging” of any sort. One of the features of WordPress that I really like, and that would be most useful to me, is Posting via E-mail instead of actually having to go to my website and doing it manually.

However, I’ve experienced a problem with it. I noticed other threads which showed others had problems, but I don’t think any of them answered any questions, and I didn’t catch one that addressed the exact problem I am having.

Let me first say what I’ve done:
I’ve created and set a particular e-mail account to be used for it. By this I mean I created the account, and put the account in the “Options”, “Writing” and “Writing by Email” part. Nothing else was done.

Now, the error I get, is that I go to the “…wp-mail.php” and see nothing but this line: “Ooops POP3 connect: Error [0] [Success] “

What is causing this, and how can I actually get it to post Via E-mail?

I know I can use a cron to do it automatically, but right now I just want to see it actually post via e-mail, then I will set it to do things automatically.

So, does anyone know how this problem can be solved. Is there something I need to modify in the actual “wp-mail.php” file? I did nothing but create the e-mail account, and then told it in the options, which e-mail I will use.

Any help would be so greatly appreciated! Thanks much and God Bless!

  • It sounds like either the account doesn’t exist, your email server has some security setting that is preventing a connection or the username and password don’t match.

Where did you create the account? The WordPress instructions aren’t very clear on this unfortunately and might lead someone to believe that adding the information to the WP Dashboard “creates” the email account. It doesn’t. You have to do that outside WordPress using whatever tools your web/email host provides.

Hmmm, Well I created the account separate from wp, via my web host itself. So that wouldn’t be the problem. I can’t imagine any problems the host would be creating by not allowing a connection.

The Username and password . . . That MIGHT be the problem, The username and password are unique and don’t match with anything, what is it supposed to match to?

    Thanks again for the help!

The login name and password have to be what you set them as when you set up the email accounts. You need to make sure that your mailserver is set correctly including the port. 110 is the default for POP3.

Also, make sure that your mail server is a POP3 and not an IMAP server.

Just a word of warning. I’ve managed to get WordPRess to check the mail server and get the message, but have yet to get it to post correctly. This seems to be a very common problem. But if it’s not even connecting to your mail server, you haven’t even gotten to the real issues yet.
