I would think this would be a common request, but I can’t seem to find a fix for this.

Here’s what I want: I want a blog where I post stuff. *Only* me. Then I want my registered users to be able to comment on my posts. *Only* registered users. I’d like everything to be readable by guests.

I see permissions integrated into WordPress, but they really seem to be worthless. Is there any way I can make these restrictions? Please, somebody give me a reason to stick with WordPress! I made the mistake of assuming these simple restrictions would be possible, and now I’ve dumped a lot of time into modifying my site only to find that this isn’t possible.

    First, upgrade to WP v1.5

Then, Options/General, and under “Membership:” select “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”

Now, go to Options/Writing, and under “Newly registered members:” select “Cannot write articles”.

Hmmm… sounds promising. Perhaps this’ll do the trick. I’ll give it a go.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

In 1.5 you don’t need the hack, restricting commenting to registered users is built-in. Look under Options > General.
