• We noticed that our post editor was acting funky – either the visual or html tabs wouldn’t work and the hyperlink button doesn’t work, so we followed this tutorial and turned on script debugging and it solved the problem. I understand this isn’t a permanent solution, so would like advice on how to fix things permanently.

  • Well… I suppose the best fix would be to find the offending javascript and either update it to working status… or get rid of it completely.

You would first need to identify the source of the offending javascript. You can use your web browsers debug console (if available) to identify if errors are present.

My first step would be to temporarily deactivate ALL of my plugins… and MANUALLY empty my browser cache. Then, I would reload the post editor again… and see if the issue persists.

Post your info back here… and someone can help you with how to proceed from there ??

Thanks. I am getting this error:

    TypeError: switchEditors is undefined

From what I’m seeing on Google searches, this is a jquery issue after the 3.5.1 update? We have tried deactivating all plugins and clearing the cache – no change.

If it is honestly not any of the plugins… then the only other thing can be the theme.

Try switching your theme to the default twentytwelve theme.. manually empty your browser cache again.. and try it again.

I was doubtful it could be the theme since this theme has been active for about a year and a half. But, I tried it anyway – switching to twentytwelve and clearing my cache – no change. :/

    Hmmm…

Okay.. with all these deactivated… try opening the admin panel in a different browser.

    Anything different?

Okay, this is odd. It just started working. All plugins and the same theme are activated. Odd. Thanks for your help anyway!

    No worries.

I watched your site VERY closely this time.. to make sure you honestly deactivated all the plugins and the theme ??

    Thank you for doing that.

So… perhaps it was the cache struggling to hold on a little longer ??

Either way… glad it’s working for you!!
