I use Firefox 2.0 (Mac) as my primary browser and it crashed a few days ago… since then, I’ve been unable to use the editor (visual or code) as there is no edit box shown between the Visual/Code tabs and the Save and Continue Editing/Save/Publish buttons. If I switch to Safari then I can work in Code view, but Safari doesn’t support the Visual Editor.

I realise that this is not so much a problem with WordPress as with my browser, but does anyone have any suggestions so that I can regain my ability to edit posts in Firefox?

    TIA, Mark

    I use Firefox 2 on a Mac too…

You said that Firefox crashed. Could you download and reinstall it? What seems to be the problem with Firefox?

    Hi Tom,
When I said that it crashed, it just closed without warning and since I restarted it, the edit box in the WordPress Editor is unavailable. I’ve restarted the Mac a couple of times since then and everything else seems fine (I’m using it to write this…) so a re-install (losing history, bookmarks, etc.) seems a bit extreme.

I was wondering if there were some cached files or a cookie or something that I need to delete?

    Cheers, Mark

I’ve found a workaround… if I disable the visual editor in my options, then I can edit posts in Firefox; however what I don’t understand is why the visual editor has suddenly got messed up ?? It’s fine from IE on my wife’s Windows PC, so I’m pretty sure it’s specific to this browser.

One more thing, clearing my browser cache doesn’t solve the problem… this is wierd

Disabled all my plugins now… and reinstalled Firefox. Still no visual editor ??

You might want to take the issue up with Mozilla. It seems to be a Firefox issue, not a WordPress issue. I hope you are able to solve the issue without loosing your bookmarks, etc.

Thanks Tom. I’ll give that a go.

That was good advice. Someone on the Mozilla forums suggested a corrupted profile. See https://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2881772 for details.

I had a similar problem (in FF2 for Windows) and this thread helped me sort it out, thanks. I found that an extension called link wrapper was causing the problem, so if anyone else comes across this with the same issue, see if you have that one installed.
