This has been reported by many people, but none of the suggested fixes work.

I had a perfectly working website until about the beginning of February, but all of a sudden when I came to edit posts yesterday, the post and page editor shows white text on a white background and, while it shows a Visual button, this has no effect.

I stress that I hadn’t changed anything in the intervening period, no updates to themes, plug-ins, anything. I also notice that many others have reported this problem, but the fixes suggested (setting CONCATENATE SCRIPTS to false), using google libraries, don’t work for me. I have tried deactivating all plug-ins, and I have upgraded to WP 5.1. No change.

The way the public website (swpics.co.uk) displays is unaffected – it’s still fine. I just can’t edit any of the content – pages or posts – using a PC.

What else can I try to resolve this, please?

    Many thanks,

    Steve

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    Hi Steve!

Have you tried on different browsers just in case?

    Hi, Jose.

Yes, I’ve tried three different browsers, and the same symptoms happen on each.

    Cheers,

    Hi, t-p

All plugins disabled, theme changed to TwentySeventeen. No change, I’m afraid.

Well, one change. Because I’ve disabled Classic Editor, if I try to edit a post, I just get an entirely blank screen with no content whatsoever. If I re-enable Classic Editor, I get the edit screen with white on white back.

    Cheers,

    Steve

    Thanks, t-p

I enabled SCRIPT_DEBUG as directed, and when I try to edit a post, I get these messages:

I’m not a developer and so these mean nothing to me. Can you help explain what they’re telling me, please?

    Many thanks,

I have fixed this by stumbling about in code (not my natural habitat ?? )

The fix was to disable Pixel-Code in my site admin console (easily.uk)

I noticed a JS error in the browser console when I tried to edit a post – syntax error (unexpected token) with a line that began “<!– WiredMinds”. This code didn’t appear in the source php file as I accessed it through FTP. I found another site which said that WiredMinds should be disabled by your site admin, so I logged on to my own site’s admin console and found that Pixel-Code was enabled. After I disabled it, the editor started working again.

So, thank you for pointing me at the way to find out where I was having problems.

    Cheers,

    Steve
