I am using WP classic editor and MP newsletters. I do not use excerpts in publishing my posts. But there are individual posts in which I would like to display a portion of the post text as the newsletter excerpt (not necessarily the beginning of the post, as is most common). Is there any way to do this manually–without automating it for every post? Could I for example, use shortcode in the specific post to show where I wanted the text excerpt to begin and end?

    Hi there @richards1052,

If you’re talking about a Post Notification email which pulls in your latest posts dynamically, then the only options are to include the title only, full text, or the excerpt. There isn’t a shortcode that would mark the text to pull out for the newsletter.

Note however that the excerpt is available even with the classic WP editor. It’s a box underneath the main editing box and you can fill it with whatever text you like, and you can even use basic HTML tags here to separate it into paragraphs or use bold/italic text. If you do not see the Excerpt box, try clicking the “Screen Options” tab in the top right and making sure the Excerpt option is checked.

You could also switch to sending a manually created newsletter, say, once a week, where you can embed links to specific posts and have greater control over the introductory text used for each one.
