Hello! Is there any abilities to use Posts Excerpts (which auto-generated and not) as Tags’/Categories’ “Meta Description” (to 150 characters)? Because I have some problem with Yandex, it say me that some of my taxonomies (especially tags) do not have meta description, and really, they don’t. And it’s unreal to write original “%%tag_description%%” for every tag, when you have a lot of posts with 2-5 relative tags. (I can give a good example of implementation of this feature.) I have found some examples how to do it, but it’s need a hard coding to theme’s files. And yes, I want it to “index” and “do follow”.

And since I’m talking about Yandex Webmaster, the second problem which I have is “sitemap”, or rather “Unknown tag image:image” in sitemaps.

So, what I see in Troubleshooting of “Yandex Webmaster”: https://yadi.sk/d/znIrL659v9mU9 (check it, please).

Thank you and will be glad for answers! ??

Template variables output titles and descriptions automatically based on data entered on each category or tag. You can set default templates for tags and categories under

    Admin > SEO > Titles & Templates > Taxonomies

Pulling data from other parts of your site, like posts or pages, would require hard coding either in a plugin or theme.

The sitemap code is created using the sitemaps standards here. Unfortunately, Yandex has not updated to accept images in sitemaps last we checked.

Thanks for fast answer and information about Yandex. ??
I know about all this “Titles & Templates”, but they are very limited in terms of automation and auto-generation. As far as I know, only Google can not pay attention to certain “Meta Information” and generate it’s own “Description” based on the context of the page and the keywords in the search results. What cannot be said about others search engines, such as the Yandex or Bing.

So my question is, will this function (post excerpt (if it available on the page and theme’s settings) as taxonomies description) be added in the near future, or not? And if “Yes”, it will be good to make an useful opportunity like “elseif/else if” in php. For example: if { %%tag_description%% / %%category_description%% is = empty/false } else { use %%post_excerpt%% } – something like this ?? Also it will be usefull for others Meta Descriptions or Tags Keywords.

Thank you again, and hope, you will understand me! ??

A quick search did not uncover a request for this type of usage with our development team. Please submit this as a feature request to our GitHub repository for Yoast SEO? Thanks!
