Hello, I am really having an issue with the featured image photos on my recipe index page all being different sizes and shapes.

When I check the dimensions; they’re all the same, but you can’t tell by looking at them. I’m trying to get them all the standard size of 1200×628 by resizing them in Canva, but they all are still different weird sizes on the recipe page.

If you could take a look on my blog, you will see what I’m talking about. Thank you so much!!

  • Hi @cookgirl26, thanks for getting in touch again, it’s great to hear from you.

The issue in this case is that the images are being created with extra white space around them…this causes them to appear a different size when WordPress crops them down to size. If you upload the original images without resizing them in Canva, the should be able to be cropped automatically to the correct dimensions.

Hope this helps- if you run into any other issues just let us know!

Thanks for your reply. I am still having an issue with a couple of the images on my homepage under *New Treats* (quesadillas and the baked oats) and the where the whole image isn’t showing inside the box. Some of it is cut off. I’ve tried cropping it to no avail.

The sizes of the featured images just don’t all look the same exact size and shape, even though I uploaded the images directly from my iPhone.

Also, my recipes category isn’t showing any recipes, just the names of the recipes. I don’t know what happened there! Thanks..

    Thanks @cookgirl26, we’re making progress! ??

The only remaining issue on these is that they are being cropped down to sizes too small for WordPress to crop them into the correct dimensions. Currently the originals are 640×640 and 480×640, which is so small that WordPress won’t attempt to crop them into the correct sizes (because they’d have to be upscaled to meet the requirements).

Here’s a little more info that may be helpful, but ideally there shouldn’t be any manual cropping required- if the images are at least 1200×800 then everything should happen automatically:

On the recipe index issue, you may have to reach out to the creators of the plugin you’re using for that, but at a glance it looks like it’s trying to load old thumbnails from an old temporary URL with an invalid SSL certificate that your host likely provided for you when you initially signed up (box****.temp.domains).

Hello Steven, thank you so much for getting back to me on this issue. I have resized the first two images on my homepage under *New Treats* to the 760x400px. I’ve also previously tried resizing the images to the 1200x800px dimensions per your suggestion.

The images are both showing the same uniform size such as in the demo now, but some of the image on both photos (quesadillas and the baked oatmeal) is cut off if you look at them. I have tried to zoom in the whole photo, but it won’t let me do it.

*I have tried multiple times to upload the images directly from my iPhone as you’ve suggested, but it either doesn’t load all the way or either the featured image shows way too large in the set featured image box and some of the photo is cut off*

*I’ve made the first post (quesadillas) 1200x800px and the second post (baked oats) 760x400px – as you can see, the quesadilla one is cut off and the baked oats one too small* I think the 1200x800px shows a lot more of the image than the 760×400*
