post form help on P2 theme 1.2.3

I am using P2 theme and would like to edit the posting form. I would like to redesign the form to remove the status, blog post, quote, link buttons and the media type upload buttons. I would instead like a drop down list that displays my categories and requires the poster to choose one. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
