@billbennett We checked on the link you provided but it returned a 404 error. Also, we checked on your site in a Google search here and went through nearly 30 pages of results but didn’t see any similar links that were indexed in the results.

Can you please let us know what search query will shows these URLs in Google?

Or is the issue you are experiencing specific to Google Search Console, and if so what is Google Search Console reporting for the URL? Is it reporting them as 404s?

Sorry Carl, the X means any number. For example: https://billbennett.co.nz/type/standard/page/124/

    Also, my error. Apologies.

The pages are NOT on Google Search Console (I ran into a different problem there, this will teach me not to multitask).

    In Google: site:billbennett.co.nz type/standard/

Shows 344 entries. So they are being indexed.

    Hi,

Thanks for your response. We understand you’ve disabled the post formats archive in the SEO > Search Appearance > Taxonomies section but the standard post format is still showing up in the search results.

We can confirm that the post archive format archives aren’t in your sitemap. Could you please check if you have the other kinds of post format archive types like aside, gallery, link, image, quote, etc., that are generating in your website or is it just the standard post format?

That’s a good question. I only have a handful of asides, links and quotes

    I tried all them:

    https://billbennett.co.nz/type/aside/

    https://billbennett.co.nz/type/link/

    and so on.

They all redirect to the home page.

    Hi,

It’s definitely strange that it is working for the other post format archives like aside and link, but isn’t working for the standard post format archive.

We’re sorry that you are experiencing problems that might be caused by our plugin!

Just to be sure, we would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur. The fastest way to do this is to?deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme?like?Twenty Nineteen.?

Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check?without affecting normal visitors to your site.

As we can imagine that you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process:?How to check for plugin conflicts.

Sorry, I realised I should have replied.

The process outlined by Michael doesn’t work in this case because the URLs only show up in Google when I type site:billbennett.co.nz type/standard/

Remember they already 404 on the site, so I’d expect that to happen if I deactivate plug-ins or change the theme. I tested just to make sure and yes, that’s what happens.

There is, however, good news. The number showing up in Google is falling.

A week ago there were 344 entries. Today there are 214.

So perhaps its just a matter of being patient and they will go.
