Hi, I’m currently using Twenty Twenty-Three on WordPress 6.2.2 and my post images are not showing the captions I have entered in the media gallery.

Is it possible to have those captions show up if they have been entered when uploading an image?

I uploaded the image first and added the caption. When I insert that image in a post the caption doesn’t show up. I can click to add a caption and copy it from the media section caption field and paste it in the caption under the image in the post but that seems like a crazy way to have to do it.

(I have already added the FSM plugin to show the captions under the featured image and that is working correctly. I can look for a plugin to automatically show any captions on post images but I figured there was a setting for this built-in. Not sure why there is a field for caption in the media gallery if it isn’t used.)

    Thanks!

Hi there @strasburgva – I haven’t been able to replicate this issue so far. On my test site, captions added in the Media Library are preserved and displayed when adding an Image block.

    I’m running WP 6.2, Twenty Twenty-Three 1.1, and no plugins. Here’s a screencast:

    If you’re still having trouble:

Could you please provide the following information to help better understand how to replicate the issue:

    • What version of WordPress are you using?
    • If you also have the standalone Gutenberg plugin active, what version is it?
    • Is the issue present with all your plugins temporarily deactivated? You can use the Health Check plugin‘s troubleshooting mode for this, which will not change your live site. If the problem goes away, reactivate your plugins one by one (while still in troubleshooting mode) to find the culprit.

    Hi Kathryn,

    Thanks for the reply!

I think I figured out the problem. It was Litespeed Cache. I disabled that one first and then deleted and re-added the image and the caption showed up. Then I re-activated Litespeed.

I guess I will just have to deactivate that plugin every time I do anything with the site? Is there a better way?

Glad you found the culprit. I’d suggest contacting the Litespeed Cache plugin folks to let them know about the bug so they can hopefully get it fixed up in the next version.
