• Just recently on my blog, constructionlawva.com, I have had an issue where I save a draft and the original “slug” of the post custom URL defaults to “auto-save-3” without my changing anything. I haven’t added any plugins since my update to WP 4.0.1 and then to 4.1. Anyone else having this issue and how do I fix it?

  • Typically this only happens when you *don’t* start out with a Title – WP uses the Title to craft the slug, if no Title, it has no option but to use a default auto save slug.

Is it possible that this is what it’s doing – do you create your Post before giving it a Title?

Nope. In some instances, the slug is created from the title and then it reverts back.

As an update, I’ve tried waiting for an auto save to kick in before clicking the save draft button in hopes of having the auto save use the slug of the title and this did not change the situation. I also disabled all plugins and this didn’t do the trick either.

In all cases I start with a title and WordPress seems to take the title as the slug. It is only *after* I hit save draft that it reverts to “auto-draft-3” as the slug.

My permalinks are set to “post title” and this has always worked. It is only since 4.1 update that this problem has been occurring.

    Any thoughts?
