Post log-in page/reg error msg

I have seen these questions (or similar) posted several times on here and each one is marked resolved with no answer…so I thought I would try my luck.
When a person logs-in, they are currently being returned to the home page of the web site.
Is there a way to redirect the logged in user to another page? If so, how?
Also, I am getting this message in error:
Notice: Your settings do not currently allow users to register themselves. If you want to allow the Absolute Privacy plugin to handle user moderation, please check anyone can register on the general settings page.
It is indeed checked.
By the way, I don’t know how and where I got the avatar, but it is stunning.
