Post order Ascending

I know this has been covered (probably adnausium for most of you) but I’m having difficulty understanding the precise steps to take and the exact files to modify in order to have my earliest posts show first, with later posts below. Can you step-by-step it for me? I have wp version 1.5.2 Thanks.
