I recently tried re-publishing an updated post. I wanted to move it to the top of the post feed so that it would get renewed attention. The problem is, when I look at that post’s page view stats in WordPress.com stats, it now shows the stats starting from the new publication date, rather than the original date. Interestingly, switching the publication date back to the original made the page view stats reappeared.

So, the stats are not removed from the database (phew), they are just filtered out based on the publication date. This is undesirable. I would like to be able to re-publish posts and still view their stats over their entire history. Other stats systems like Google Analytics do not do this — they know only URLs, not publication dates. Why does WordPress.com need to filter out data based on publication date?

Hi there – sorry for the delay.

I recently tried re-publishing an updated post. I wanted to move it to the top of the post feed so that it would get renewed attention. The problem is, when I look at that post’s page view stats in WordPress.com stats, it now shows the stats starting from the new publication date, rather than the original date. Can you clarify how you “republished” this post? Did you make a copy of the post and post it again, or did you change the post date for the post?

Jetpack Stats tracks via the WordPress post ID – not by date of the post. Can you let me know what site you’re having this problem? Once I have that information, I’ll be better able to help.

If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:

    Thanks!
