Post Status dependent on Featured Image

I’m a pro subscriber. I’m hoping to have the RSS import post status be dependent on if there is a featured image or external image URL. I have some feeds that contain great content but they are inconsistent with a featured image (sometimes they have one and sometimes they don’t). I’d like to create a way for those posts that don’t have a featured image or external image URL to go to draft and those that do have the featured image, publish.

Instead of going to draft, another alternative would be to use a link to one of the random photo sites like https://source.unsplash.com/random or https://picsum.photos/300/300, only if the feed import does not find an image.

I have created a custom plug-in for some things and have looked at the feedzy “how do I” page with extra hooks, but don’t quite have enough experience to know how to code this. I have looked at the “Make the default image always show” code and think it’s a good place to start but don’t know the post status variable or how to integrate the random image option.

Can someone help me? BTW, this plug-in is The Best!
