Every WordPress site has a page where you can view all Posts of a given category, e.g. examplewpsite.org/category/categoryname
On this page, there are several Posts, whose title and excerpts don’t match. e.g. Post #1 has correct title, incorrect excerpt, Posts #2-4 have correct title, correct excerpt, then the remaining posts have correct title, incorrect excerpt.

    What could be causing this?

    Hi there,

If you modify the incorrect excerpts, the change is not effective?

This problem can be a compatibility issue. To find the culprit (a conflicting plugin or theme), you may follow this flowchart: https://premium.wpmudev.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Support-Process-Support-Process.gif. Remember to backup your site before.

Thanks for the flow chart. I turned off/on plugins with no effect. I’m currently using OceanWP as my site Theme. I tested a few simpler Themes- some of them, such as Twenty Fifteen and Twenty Seventeen, made this problem go away entirely (i.e. excerpts for Posts always match the actual content) and some of them, such as Twenty Twenty-One, still allow incorrect excerpts to display.

Getting rid of the current Theme will not be on the table, until about a year from now, when the website needs to be re-designed. A great deal of customization and effort has been put into the site’s current Theme, so I will attempt to see what is causing some Themes to cause this WordPress feature to work differently.

I’m not sure what “modify the incorrect excerpts” means.
In the page that displays all of a Category’s Posts, everything is generated automatically, including the excerpts, so there is nothing to edit.

Sorry about this. Upon doing further research, I have been reminded that there is a feature called “Excerpts” in which an Administrator can give a Post a custom excerpt. This was a feature that I have always ignored, until now.

It turns out, in 100% of the cases in which the Post excerpt does not match the Post’s content, a custom Excerpt was being used. I deleted all of the text in the Excerpt field, and the problem is now gone. This problem is SOLVED.
