• Hello, I have tried searching but not finding the type of plugin Im looking for.

I am trying to find plugins to accomplish two functions:

    1) Show summaries and a thumbnail in a post category, instead of the whole posting. My posts are rather long as they are typically instructional topics, so with 2-3 on a page the page is very long. Is there a plugin that will just post the title, an thumbnail and the first few lines of a post instead of the whole thing? Then they could just click on the title to expand it

    2) Is there a plugin that will post the same thing from #1, also to a page? My layout’s pages and categories are essentially the same, and people tend to go to the pages first, not the category archives. If I could cross post the info into pages, with the same summary as posted above, that would be awesome.

  • Hi

In your category template, switch the tag that displays the content from the_content to the_excerpt, which will display summaries of the post. Take a look at this page
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Template_Tags/the_excerpt

As far as the thumbnails, look at this plugin
    https://www.press75.com/the-simple-post-thumbnails-wordpress-plugin/

As far as #2, you could add your category pages to the site nav, which would accomplish the same thing as double posting them to pages. Then people would find them easily

    Hello,

The excerpt works fine, thanks for the help.

However, I cannot find how to make categories as site nav buttons. Im using teh freshy theme and have pages set up as buttons in the sitenav, I assume I have to remove the pages, but where do I go to actually make the categories be the sitenav buttons instead?
