• Have already tried toggling html/plain text as preferred.

    My one and only use case is forwarding emails I’d like to become posts, including links to whatever file(s) are attached to each email. Sometimes plaintext, sometimes html; however it comes to me in the first place.

    Running on Dreamhost shared hosting.

  • I just downgraded to 1.4.32 and posts are working again.

    Something between 1.4.32 and 1.4.35 changed drastically that is causing this.

    Where can I download (or otherwise get hold of) previous versions.

    You can download previous versions of plugins via that plugin’s developer tab.

    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/postie/developers/

    Scroll down and you’ll see it.

    Thanks

    I was able to process both sample emails (from @4x4geocachers and @yjeanrenaud) and Postie did everything it was supposed to.

    Your issue is that your database is timing out
    PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in ...
    This error was in your log several times. Postie can’t fix this as I call the standard WordPress wp_insert_post() function.

    Wayne,

    thanks, I think. Your post is informative, but doesn’t help me to get the issue sorted. (I don’t know a lot about how this stuff works so I really need some guidance.)

    I’ve done some experimentation and have discovered that I can post via email if the post contains text only. (My email is set to send in HTML format).

    The problem appears when I attempt to send a post that contains pictures, which I haven’t attempted to do since last November, (so my problem could be older than I first suspected.)

    When emailing a post containing any picture, and manually running postie – postie appears to process the email successfully, but all that appears in the dashboard is a draft message with the title tmptitle, the contents of which is the one word tmpPost.

    Also, only the first picture in the email gets uploaded/placed in the /wp-content/uploads/2013/03 folder.

    Can you, or anyone, help me debug this problem?

    @wayne, thanks. but how come my postie doesn’t? it always gets empty posts with these kind of emails.

    If either of you are interested I can help, but would need access to your WP install. Please contact me at [email protected] to coordinate.

    It’s not Postie that’s causing the issue, it is WordPress itself!

    After struggling with this issue, both here, with WordPress and my web host, I finally realised that there were lots of posts on the WordPress forums about HTTP issues and problems when uploading media with the current version of WP.

    My final solution was really simple – I downgraded back to version 3.4.2 (from 3.5.1) and everything works again.

    The instructions I used are here: https://etuts.org/manually-downgrade-wordpress/

    Version 3.4.2 can be downloaded from here: https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-3.4.2.zip

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Thanks also should go to Wayne, who spent some time behind the scenes on my blog trying to sort it out.
    May I add my experience with tis issue.
    I am running 3.4.2, with the latest version of Postie, which I updated today. I have been running an older version and successfully receiving text emails with attachments, which posted automatically to Postie, without issue. The last one I had was about 3 weeks ago.
    In the last 6 weeks or so, I have not updated any plugins or anything else technically. Posts worked automatically and successfully.
    However, in the last 3 weeks, the automation stopped (even though the blog was being visited), and worse: any posts with images were posted (pending) with only the title and the images– the text was totally stripped. However, pure text posts, without images were posted intact.
    But none were automated. I wondered why I had no posts from my collaborator who is posting from mid-Pacific; today when I did a manual check, there were 13 posts, from the last 4 weeks.
    Something has changed… hmmm!
    Moreover… 2 test posts, sent today from London & the Galapagos, to the Postie address did not even arrive… my next step is to check with my host if they can track anything.
    Another anomaly…
    just resent a test with only text, which arrived with the posting date set at: Jan 1, 1970 @ 0:00
    If you could turn on debug logging and send the resulting log file to [email protected] I will take a look.
