postie/gmail connection problem

I can’t connect to gmail;

Using POP3-SSL (with TLS=No, Port=995, server=pop.gmail.com) I get
Can’t open mailbox {pop.gmail.com:995/service=pop3/ssl/notls/novalidate-cert}INBOX: invalid remote specification

Using IMAP3-SSL (with TLS=No, Port=993, server=imap.gmail.com) I get
Can’t open mailbox {imap.gmail.com:993/service=imap/ssl/notls/novalidate-cert}INBOX: invalid remote specification

I’ve enabled IMAP and POP for Gmail.

WordPress is running on MAMP Pro (PHP v5.6.2), with a self-signed certificate. Postie version is 1.6.12.

Very frustrating – any help would be much appreciated!
