Posting as other Authors from Admin Account?

So here’s a problem in need of a solution. I’m starting up a newspaper blog site which will have multiple authors. I wish to put the author info into the users profiles and then display their information in singles pages and author archives.

However, none of these people will ever actually post to the site, I will be through the admin area. That said, what do I need to build so that when I’m logged in as admin to make a post, I have an author drop down to attach the story to?

I’ve tried the co-author plugin and that didn’t do what I had hoped. Also, I’d rather not be logged in as the twenty different people who will be writing the posts, so it’d be nice to assign credit in an easy qay.
