• I have set up a site to serve as a memorial to my wife who died earlier this week. With friends and family scattered across the country I want to offer a central place where everyone could post a story, or goodbye message, and also read what else was being said.

It would be perfect if this could be done using the post by email feature of WP. I created a new email address for the site, and added it to the configuration in WP. However my test message hasn’t shown up on the site in over an hour. Is there something else I need do to enable this feature. I’m afraid given my current mental state I’m doing good just to get the site up and running.

    Thank you in advance,
    mark

Have you followed the instructions in the Codex?

A common misconception is that the post is published immediately after the the email is sent. In truth, the post actually has to be approved at example.com/installdir/wp-mail.php before being published. You can also set a plugin to the job automatically for you.

Thanks. I had missed the bit about using wp-mail.php. Now I am getting database errors. I had some double quotes in the test message, and the parser barfed all over those. Now I can’t get the test message through even without the quotes.

Unfortunately I can’t give you a solution, just a reiteration that single and double quotes are not handled, causing the errors you received. I have also tried wp-postie, but it has similar problems, I think. It has been a while since I last tried this.
