Posting my Website Live

Hi,

I have a question. Someone prior to me started building a new website on top of the old “current” live website with WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) https://www.xxxxxx.com/us (just remove “/us” from the link and you will see the current page). My question is since I am currently using the subfolder “/us” to work the new design, but want to post the page to Site Address (URL) https://www.xxxxx.com without the “/us” subfolder, how do I do that? What happens to the old site? The old site was custom created and the only way to update it now is through FTP. Would I have to remove the files related to the old website prior to changing the Site Address (URL) in WordPress? Also, how do I know which folders are being used by the new site and which are used by the old?
