• It seems that permalinks are broken in the latest (5.9.2 and 5.9.3) wordpress.
I have tried several times doing a fresh install (no plugins, no customization, default Twenty Twenty-Two theme). If you set permalinks to ‘post name’ and just try to view the sample page, you will get a 404 error. Switch back to plain and everything works again.

Is there any way to get post name permalinks to work in 5.9.x on a new install?

    Thanks in advance,
    Brian Andrus

  • Permalinks work fine across all clients sites my agency manages. I just spun up a new site to test, and permalinks work as expected.

Permalink is not broken in WordPress. This is most likely a server config problem at your end.

Remember, WordPress needs the right configuration on your webserver for any of the custom permalinks to work. If you run Apache, WordPress will rewrite rules for you, but it needs write permission on your .htaccess file to write the rules, and the mod_rewrite module should be active on the server. If you run Nginx or some other web server software, you’ll need to take care of rewrite configuration yourself.

Yep, that was it. Apparently I hadn’t restarted apache on all the nodes.
    Thanks!
