• I just switched from MT to WordPress.
Installation was a breeeze, importing my MT posts was also a breeze. The entire process took less than 20 minutes.
The blog works really quickly – except when i try to post a new comment, even with pingbacks unchecked, post.php just hangs and never resolves. Eventually Safari gives the message “Could not open the page after trying for 60 seconds.” However the new post still works successfully.
In fact, I can open a new window with my blog in it https://nimbleswitch.com/journal/
while the page is hanging and can see that the post has already posted. So post.php is successful but something in it never loads properly.
Has anyone else had this problem?

  • What is in your ‘sites to be pinged when I post’ ?
    It’s in Options – Discussion I think
    It could be something there..

Kato, I had the same problem yesterday when I was trying to post.
Podz, I have rpc.pingomatic.com listed to be pinged.

    Thanks Podz!
    That was the fix!
Good memory! It was actually under “Options –> Writing –> Update Services” but your post still got me there in just a few seconds.
    The default https://rpc.pingomatic.com/
was apparantly slow or down when I posted my firstever WP post. I removed it and subsequent posts were speeedy.
I hope WP development will consider making the standard distribution without this default value. It creates a false sense of slowness about WP which turns out to not be the case at all.
    Thanks for the help! Kato

Yeah, I keep the sites to ping pared down, as I don’t like the hang that can result. I just ping weblogs and (I think) blo.gs, and if write articles citing a lot of news articles, I go to pingomatic’s web-site or technorati to ping that technorati.
