Lists in posts

I am using the theme Spacious, I am trying to add a list with either bullet points or numbers in my post, when I insert the list in the post page it looks fine but when I view the live post it loses its format and just spreads across the post.

I would like to know if there is a way this can be done, I am a newbie to WordPress so forgive me if I am not sure of what I am doing.
