I assigned a subcategory to a post, but the post count is not appearing in the parent category – https://prnt.sc/YyOGcRMVw3ay I tried with different installations and it’s the same issue. Tried in the live server and localhost as well.

I am using the default WordPress theme, and no plugins are activated. Though the count is not updating, the post shows in the category archive.

Is this an issue just happening on my website or a bug in WordPress core?

  • That’s the default behavior. Count of parent category or taxonomy would only reflect the posts that you directly linked to that category or taxonomy. When assigning categories, you can see that you can actually select both (parent and actual category) but whether to do that or not, depends on how you want their individual pages to look on frontend site.

    Hi @ashfame,

Thank you for clarification. That makes sense.
