• I have successfully imported my database from another wp blog onto my new blog with a new domain name and host. It populated everything in the ftp but the actual posts are not showing up. I do see a .txt file showing up that is actually the backup with the .txt extension in the media file. Can anyone help me figure out why I cant get it to populate correctly?

Can you login to your admin area? If yes, change your permalinks to default (temporarily).

    ok… done

Do you have only pages or have posts too? How many posts?

There are no pages only posts on the old blog…. The old blog is https://www.itshouldnothurttobeawife.com

I am starting to add posts manually from the old blog, but I would still like to try to import the whole thing if possible, it would take forever. All my media files and tags and categories transferred, but for some reason the posts wont populate even though there are in the phpmyadmin.

Did you follow this to import the blog or did you just back up restore the mysql to the new host

I just backed up the old one and used the wordpress importer tool.

I had a hard time understanding the information on that link you provided. But after clicking on the WordPress link toi the right of the page I got these instructions and this is exactly what I did :

    WordPress
To import from a WordPress export file into a WordPress blog follow these steps.

Log into that blog as an administrator.
Go to Manage: Import (or Tools:Import in 2.7+)in the blog’s admin panels.
    Choose “WordPress” from the list.
Upload this file using the form provided on that page.
You will first be asked to map the authors in this export file to users on the blog. For each author, you may choose to map to an existing user on the blog or to create a new user
WordPress will then import each of the posts, comments, and categories contained in this file into your blog

And as I mentioned, all the content seems to be in the files but not populated on the actual blog itself.

Could you explain a bit more about the files? where are you seeing these files ? what type of files are these ?

Let me simplify it for you. (I assume that you are the admin for both the blogs.)

    Exporting:–
    1. login to old blog WordPress admin then navigate to Tools then Export.
    2. Choose between all content or just posts or just comments or feedback. (I would choose all content)
3.Then click download the Export file and save the file. The file will have the date of export with an xml extenstion.

    Importing:-
    4. Now login to the new Blog WordPress admin and then navigate to tools then Import.
    5. You will see the various options to import from, select WordPress,If the wordpress importer plugin is not installed it might ask you to install it.Please install the plugin and navigate back to Tools and Import if you are not already in page where it asks you to upload the WordPress eXtended RSS file.
    6. Just browse through and upload the file we downloaded earlier (in step 3). It will upload the file in few seconds.
    7. Now you will see an Assign authors screen, just select the authors, and you would want to select the option box download and import file attachments.

When this is done you would see the posts on your blog.
