• My sites were hacked so my host provider set up a new cpanel acct for me on a different server on which I created two new wp installations for the blogs. The host provider uploaded the databases from the former blog sites. I can see in php all the text of my blogs but no posts appear in my two blogs. The php database includes two sets of wp files one lot with wp prefix and the second lot with wpte prefix. The first lot has text of my blogs but the wpte lot appear devoid of the posts text. Is there a simple way to overcome this or a way for me to copy the posts and paste then directly into my new blog installation?

iam not adept at php etc so am looking for a route which will not cause greater issues

    Help appreciated

  • Hi there,

Have you tried the export function from the wp-admin menu?

You can easily export all of your blog items (even from a certain post type) from one installation and import it back into another using the import function.
You can find these options under ‘extra’ in the admin menu.

When doing this you are probably asked to install the WordPress import plugin.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have been experienceing problems logging in even though I have been into php my admin and changed the password and checked that I using the correct password and user name. Wiil keep trying – and will try the export function again and update on success or not.

    Thanks

I have now tried several times to export and import via wordpress and also via exporting php database sql format and then inporting that.

When I use the wordpress importer to import XML file this does work and message is “his does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number” Any ideas or help to overcome this as I am trying to recover my posts and place them into a new installation of wordpress blog site.

    thanks in anticipation

Unable to import blog posts from old database to new one. Created xml file from myphp admin wp posts row and used this to import into new wp installation but message received “does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number” Looked this up on internet and found suggested solutions of changing code line version number to 1.1 that is <wp:wxr_version>1.1</wp:wxr_version>.
However, I can not find the above code in the xml file despite searching for various words, phrases and even “channel” to see if it is found so am not sure whether I am going about this in the right way –
1 Should I export the wp_post file from php myadmin old database in xml format (that is what I have done) or from a different source?
2 If so why does the above code not appear when the file is extracted to notepad++?
3 Use the import tool in new wordpress installation to import it (tool is already active).
4 Presumably when I do find the above code it should be changed as shown above i.e. to version 1.1 as follows <wp:wxr_version>1.1</wp:wxr_version>?

Help appreciated but please bear in mind that I am not technically adept despite ‘knowledge’ above.

Want a Technical challenge? The last update above may be unusual and perhaps requires an innovative solution such as a way to simply copy one php table prefeix wp tpe to another ending prefixed wp within the same database so that the posts will display on the blog. You can read more in the notes above.

Would appreciate a solution as blogs are down until I fix this issue
