When I create a new post and enter text it looks normal, but if I create and save the post and then go to the “All posts” page, instead of lines of posts detailed across the page, with each post on a separate line, the post appears vertically in the first column on the left. So for example I created a test post called “Welcome” and it appears as

    W
    e
    l
    c
    o
    m
    e
    _
    D
    r
    a
    f
    t
    ,
    B
    l
    o
    c
    k
    e
    d
    i
    t
    o
    r

and then the editing options appear underneath in another long vertical string if I mouse-over the space. This makes it almost impossible to edit or even properly see the posts. Help! I am new to WordPress and am using the free version of Astra.

Never mind – I found it myself. But it’s worth recording here because it’s a problem I’ve seen other people complaining about and not getting an answer. The problem was the GrowSocial plugin, which added an extra, and wide, column to the post details, and in doing so squashed the Title column to single-character width. Pulling down the Screen Options at top right and turning off some of the less important columns enabled the Title column to expand back to a readable width.

    Hi @whitehound,

Very pleased to know that you have figured it out and thank you for sharing your finding.

However, I am sure that this is not theme-related. In other words, the same thing will happen also with any other themes. Further, I am also quite sure that this is not an issue as it won’t cause any problem with functionality although indeed it affects the UX and is annoying. I would suggest you get in touch with the plugin’s author/support or create a new thread on the respective plugin’s forum.

Feel free to create a new thread if you have anything else related to Astra we can help you with.

    Have a good day ??

Yes. At the time I thought it might be theme-related as I’d witched to Astra since the last time I used that page, but it wasn’t.

It does affect functionality though as it maes posts incredibly hard to edit. I don’t know if this is a thing that a theme *can* do, or whether it would have to be done by WordPress themselves, but it would be really useful to be able to change column widths in these admin display forms in some way other than simply deleting columns. On an Excel spreadsheet, for example, I could choose between dragging columns wider or thinner with a pull handle, setting the column width from a dialogue box, changing the font size of the display to fit more on a page, and allowing the form to spill over the side of the apge and then scrolling back and forth. But the only thing I can do in WordPress is turn columns right off. If it’s possible for a theme like Astra to make the display forms more customisable, that would be really useful.

    Hi @whitehound,

If you like, you can hide the column that you think is not necessary to be there from the Screen Options. Refer to this screenshot, please.

    I hope it will help.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??
