• Has anyone noticed a bug where you can’t assign a static page to your posts in the options on Settings->Reading? The landing page can be static but I cant get the posts to show a static page, it just jumps through to a homepage view. It was working fine in 2.7 with exactly the same pages assigned

  • you need to create the template file for the posts page so it can be static.

Hi, I did, i have a separate template for the index and post pages and had no problems before. The static post page is ignored and you go to the home page, which makes me think its a permalink/redirection bug

curious enough, I haven’t change to hard test the version 2.8

If your home page is called home.php rename it to home_page.php or something different. I have problem with that too.

Hi, its not the filename, that’s completely different. I’m using it to keep a development site partially hidden so its not something that many people will ever test

I had just built a test site using version 2.7.1. When I went to build my real site, I went to version 2.8. I instantly ran into this exact same problem. How does something like this not get picked up in QA?!? At least I know to be very cautious when upgrading now.

Turns out I accidentally uploaded a home.php file with my template when I built my new site. I am not sure why WordPress looks at home.php before index.php since that makes no sense by common web practices, but that was my problem. I would check to make sure your template directory does not have a file along these lines. I found it by simply comparing which files were in the default theme directory versus my theme’s directory.

Just came back to this issue again, still have a problem if i want to hide the index and pages on a test site. I swapped the theme to classic but the post pages are still accessible
