• hey guys,
I have an odd issue here.

Posts are dissapearing from my blogs. They are there when I post them, and even well after 75+ people have commented on the blog. Then all of the sudden, the post is marked as private, and it disapears from the site.

    Any thoughts as to why?

This is a lest of the plugins that I am currently using on the blog that is having the issues.
    Maybe that will help?

Ok,.. so I just figured out a BIG bug in 2.0.3.
After you have published a post and you go back in and make an edit to the post, and click ‘SAVE’ – the post gets marked as PRIVATE.
However, if you click ‘Save & Continue Editing’ the post continues to be marked a ‘PUBLIC’.

I can’t replicate that. When I hit “Save” while editing a post that is statused as “Published” it stays published.

Can you jot down the series of steps I’d need to take to see this happen?

Cannot replicate here either (2.0.3, tuneup, editormonkey, Filosofo Uncheck Default Category).

Well, wouldnt you know it,.. I can no longer replicate the problem on a consistent basis from my side as well, locally, or on the server. It is happening with out a doubt.

Could it be something to do with one of the plugins that I have installed? I also have a few other plugins that I installed, but am not currently using. Could they be causing trouble?

    This is very odd.

The good thing is that I am having this problem occur locally and on the server. Which leads me to think that it is not a WP 2.0.3 issue.
However, getting the problem to reproduce based on a specific action is tough. I am trying every possible scenario that I can.

It is definatly occuring after a post has been published for an amount of time.

Could it be that more than one user may be logged into one user name at a time?

is it possible to see a list of all the functions that WP has called in a given time period? To be able to see what caused a post to go private, or when it actually just went private?

I have a post that was posted on the 15th, and I just relized that it was marked as private. Because it was on another page of posts, I really dont know when it was marked private.
I thought that there might be a way to look inot that.
    hmmm

So I have a few other issues with these blogs. I am hoping that if I list them here, maybe it will signal a larger issues that is causing all of them?

Comments Slash Bug – After editing a comment, and the comment contains an apostrophe, a slash appears next to the apostrophe that is completely un-editable.

Adding Categories – When using Editor, in the write panel, under the categories tool, and when adding a category, I get: ‘You do not have sufficient privalges to add Categories’
however, I go to MANAGE – Categories, and can sucessfully add a new category there. hmmm

though this might shed some light on the issue.

The additional issues are both caused by WordPress 2.0.3. This little plugin fixes ’em: https://txfx.net/code/wordpress/wordpress-203-tuneup/ until 2.0.4 is released.

It’d be neat if it fixed your other issue too… but I dunno…

Thanks Handy, I am going to check in with them over at the plugin page you sent. Maybe they will have some good ideas as to why this is happening.
    ??

I have the same porblem as “silencematters”, post get private after save (when they were published!). I really thought I was getting crazy here!

I too have the Public to Private problem after editing posts. I wrote about this at my blog after first upgrading to WP 2.0.

If you use Firefox 1.5 you may find that Post Status reverts from Publish to Private without being reset by user. When this happens, if you don’t notice your post has reverted to Private, then it will be inaccessible to the public until you notice this and change it. This is a scary thought for those of us who want our posts always available to the public. Other Firefox users have posted here:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/54907?replies=10″

with the same experience as mine.

I’m sorry to say that the problem still persists in 2.0.3 though it has become less frequent.

I’ve got two blogs running on separate subdomains of the same hosted domain. One of them I’ve been running since summer, and have never seen this problem.

The other, I set up a month or two ago, and this problem has happened twice. The first time, the post set itself to “Private” almost immediately; this second time just now, it took a few hours, waiting until I was asleep to make the change (sneaky devil).

I am a compulsive post-editor, so that may have something to do with it; but again, this second occurrence took place when I wasn’t even logged on to my computer.

So here’s a bump for the thread, in hopes that somebody has some idea of what’s going on.

I’ve noticed that most of the times this happens when I hit the Refresh button on my Firefox browser during a post editing session.

My advice is if you have this problem, try not to use the Refresh button while you’re editing a post.

This is only my experience & I don’t know whether the behavior manifests itself differently for others.

I’ve noticed that most of the times this happens when I hit the Refresh button on my Firefox browser during a post editing session.

I have this issue too. Some posts get changed to private every now and then after editing.

I just tested this and it seems to be true. When browser refreshes during editing session, the post gets changed to private.

Sometimes this is unavoidable. There are time when one loses internet connection mid-edit.
