Pre-Installed WordPress Hosting

I’ve used several hosts that allow one-click installs of WordPress using Fantastico and similar. It works fairly well and saves some work especially if you’re less technical and don’t want to mess with the wp-config data. An additional benefit is that you get to choose your admin username, which is both convenient and more secure.

Hostgator.com is one such host that I would highly recommend. As far as I know you still have to update yourself but WordPress has had a very easy one-click upgrade system for awhile now so that’s not really an issue. See this link for more details. A couple days ago I started my WordPress and I used the 1 click installer of the host Dreamhost. It was very easy to get my site up and running I would highly recommend it.

Learn to install WordPress yourself. It’s a great ‘first step’ into the world of webhosting, and it gives you familiarity that you can’t buy. You’ll already be comfortable if an auto-upgrade goes bad and you need to do in manually!

It takes very little time to create a database, upload files, and point the files to the DB, and it’s a fantastic tool for your kit ??

Installing WP maually is fun. I have used both. But, “famous five minute install” simply rocks. The only thing that a non-techie guy must keep in mind is setting up a database. thats it.

Wanted to weigh in on this one just a bit. Quick disclaimer, I work for WP Engine, so all appropriate biases can be assumed. However, and since WordPress is such a diverse community, there are a lot of good ways to host your site, depending on your needs.

If you want someone else to take care of the install and updates for you, a managed host is a great bet. WP Engine, Pagely, and ZippyKid are all great options for this. There will be a migration process to bring your site over, though. If it’s a smaller site, then doing it yourself will take a few minutes. Larger sites are more complicated.

Bluehost has a very simple install process, and they have great support videos to guide you. For example, https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/wp_install. However, you’ll still need to keep WordPress updated yourself.

The simplest, and least expensive way, is to let WordPress host your site. They will take care of updates for you. This does limit how much you can customize your site, but only in the interest of keeping your site secure. The Core team has done a pretty amazing job of making an open source platform with millions upon millions of users very secure. You’re always in good hands here.
