Pre-Upgrade Question

    I hope this version 14 situation is resolved sometime soon. Many folks are having issues and it looks like it was caused by numerous high-level issues.

    Anyway, I have about 25 sites with which I am currently sticking with version 13.5 until this all shakes out.

    But, I did upgrade 3 sites to version 14.0.4 – but DID NOT click on the option to “Speed up your site” and have dismissed the notice whenever it appeared.

    Is it safe to assume that this action is what caused everyone the issues they are having? Assuming it starts the re-indexation process to a new method.

    Those 3 sites I mentioned are not having any issues and the interface looks like the old one.

    Hello,

    With the new Yoast SEO version 14+, the underlying framework of the Indexables technology has been changed. Tables in the WordPress database relating to the plugin are rebuilt.

    However, if you decide to not take advantage of the feature by clicking the ‘Speed up your site’ button, you can simply leave things as they are. Ignoring the notice to use the feature won’t be affecting your site SEO and ranking.

    Thanks for the answer Maybellyne but let me re-phrase the question as I know what the details were in the version 14 releases.

    For those sites where I have NOT clicked the speed up your site, I have seen no degredation or performance issues. I have not yet upgraded and site and actually clicked on that option when presented.

    Are all these people experiencing problems because of clicking this option OR by simply updating to v14? That is the question.

    Hi @manhattancenters ,

    Clicking the “Speed up” button starts the migration of all of your post data from the old fields in the database to the new tables that 14.0+ creates.

    If you don’t click the “Speed up” button, what will happen is that when a post on your site gets traffic, the plugin will migrate the data for that post to the new tables.

    This means that the issues you are seeing are cases where 14.0 does not work on those specific site configurations. If you have not seen any errors on the sites where you have upgraded, clicking the “Speed up” button should not cause any issues.

    However, we always recommend having full site backups before making any big changes on your site. Also, if you are able to test the update on a staging site, you can make sure that everything will migrate as expected.
