pre_get_posts firing twice

I’m running an echo statement inside one of my pre_get_post hooks, and the echo is being spit on screen twice. This implies to me that the call is obviously made twice, and I’m quite certain it should only happen once. I disabled all of my plugins, and can’t see the issue elsewhere. Any idea what’s causing this echo to trace twice?
