    User Avatar plugin comes with a following pre-defined avatar.

    #1 identicon (Generated)
    #2 Wavatar (Generated)
    #3 MonsterID (Generated)
    #4 Retro (Generated)

    You can pick any single avatar according to your need and save it.

    Great simple plugin. I have the same question but I don’t get your answer.

    Is it possible for users to select from a variety of custom avatars that I have provided?

    For example, if the user is female they can choose a female avatar.

    No, this is not possible right now in this plugin. You have to choose the custom avatar and apply it.
